Nigeria’s D’Tigress Arrive in Abidjan for AfroBasket

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have landed in Abidjan ahead of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.Coach Rena Wakama named 12 players for the tournament, which begins this weekend and ends on August 3.

Eight players from the 2023 championship squad are returning, including MVP Amy Okonkwo and captain Sarah Ogoke. Also in the squad are Victoria Macaulay, Ezinne Kalu, and Promise Amukamara, who missed the last edition but played at the 2024 Olympics. Newcomer Vera Ojenuwa, a 6ft 4in forward from the U.S.-based Arkansas Razorbacks, makes her debut.

The team flew from Abuja to Abidjan on Wednesday, July 23, with full support from Nigeria’s Sports Commission. D’Tigress have won six AfroBasket titles, including the last four editions since 2017.
