Ghana Targets Universal Electricity by 2030

President John Mahama has backed Ghana’s commitment to achieve universal electricity access by 2030. The pledge was made under the World Bank and AfDB-led Mission 300 initiative to end energy poverty in Africa.

Mahama said reliable power is key to reducing poverty and supporting businesses. He emphasized the need for strong partnerships between government and the private sector. Plans include creating a Renewable Energy Fund to expand solar and off-grid solutions. The government is also working on reforms to address inefficiencies in electricity distribution.

Challenges remain, with a reported $2 billion annual financial shortfall in the energy sector. Despite high access levels, rural communities still lag behind, making the target ambitious but achievable.
