Togo Becomes First in Africa to Use Robotic Cancer Technology

Dogta-Lafiè Hospital in Lomé has introduced Focal One, a French robotic system for treating prostate cancer. This makes Togo the first African country to use the high-intensity ultrasound device.

The technology targets cancerous tissue precisely without surgery or radiation. Professor Kodjo Tengue said it greatly reduces side effects and speeds up recovery. The move is part of Togo’s plan to modernize healthcare and promote precision medicine. Local medical teams will receive training through partnerships with French experts.

The hospital also launched a breast cancer detection center under the “Pink October” campaign. Experts believe that these efforts aim to improve early diagnosis and reduce cancer deaths in Togo.
