Ajoke Ojomo led Nigeria to a resounding 3-0 victory over the Benin Republic in the finals of the women’s team event on the first day of action at the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championships.

The event, which is the first of five elite table tennis events to be staged at the Molade Okoya Thomas Sports Hall inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, began with Nigeria claiming top spot on day one in the women’s team category.

The win also means that Nigeria has qualified for the ITTF African Championships which will be held in Rwanda in October this year. In the men’s category, the trio of Taiwo Mati, Matthew Kuti and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai cruised to victories in Group One over Liberia (walkover), the Ivory Coast (3-1), and the Benin Republic (3-0) to secure a place in the team finals.
