Uganda Opens Pearl of Africa T20 Cricket Series

Uganda has launched the Pearl of Africa T20 cricket series in Entebbe, welcoming teams from Nigeria, Kenya, UAE, and Namibia A. The double round-robin tournament began today and runs through 23 July. This competition aims to elevate East Africa’s status in international cricket. Uganda’s cricket board hopes the event will generate local excitement and improve player rankings. All matches are being livestreamed with commentary in English and Luganda.

Day one saw Uganda defeat Nigeria in a tightly contested opener. The games have drawn interest from regional media and cricket fans online. Organizers say attendance is exceeding expectations given recent investments in sports facilities. Uganda’s government has pledged continued funding for cricket and other minority sports. The event may lay the groundwork for larger ICC-sanctioned tournaments in the region.
