Team Nigeria’s U-20 men’s 4x100m relay team, comprising of Saliu Toyeeb, Joachim Uyovwiyoma, John Caleb, and Malik Oluwatobi successfully won their protest and have officially been crowned African U-20 Champions.
The victory came after controversy and protests from other competing teams, who argued that Nigeria made their final baton exchange outside the designated changeover zone during the last leg of the relay.
However, upon review by officials—likely including video evidence and technical analysis—the protest by the opposing teams was dismissed, and Nigeria’s exchange was deemed legal or not in violation of the rules.
As a result, the Nigerian team’s gold medal was upheld, solidifying their position as the continental champions in the 4x100m relay at the African U20 Championships.
