Team Nigeria Delivers Oscar-Worthy Performance — But Disqualified After 4x400m Final Drama

Team Nigeria brought the MKO Abiola Stadium to life with a sensational run in the U-20 men’s 4x400m final, seemingly clinching the GOLD medal in dramatic fashion — only for heartbreak to follow.

The Nigerian quartet of Victor Sampson, David Akhalu, Gafar Badmus, and Ezekiel Eno overcame a strong start from Team Botswana, thrilling the home crowd by storming into the lead on the home straight. It was a performance that had all the flair and emotion of an Oscar-winning script.

However, the celebrations were short-lived. Nigeria was later disqualified for a lane infringement, stripping the team of the gold medal. As a result, Botswana was awarded the gold, while South Africa claimed silver. A bittersweet end to what was, undoubtedly, one of the most electrifying races of the championship.
