Ivory Coast has officially enrolled over 20 million people in its Universal Health Coverage (CMU) scheme. This milestone, reached on July 18, 2025, represents about 68% of the population.
The achievement reflects growing public trust in the national health protection system. Key to this success is a proximity strategy involving mobile teams and instant card production. “CMU villages” have also been created to answer citizens’ questions and speed up enrollment. The CMU now holds the largest biometric database in the country’s history. This supports better health planning, social aid targeting, and public policy decisions.
To boost inclusion, the government has waived CMU fees for informal workers until August 31, 2025.
