The University of Lomé started the HELIOS 2025 training on July 21, 2025.
The program focuses on waste recovery, water treatment, and using biomass sustainably. It is led by France’s CNRS and several African universities. About 100 young researchers from Africa and Europe are attending. They will study advanced technologies like electrochemistry and photocatalysis. The goal is to find local scientific solutions and grow West Africa’s research.
It is the first time the event is hosted in Togo. Officials say the training will help improve water access and create green jobs.
