The Ivorian government is working on strategies to better regulate small-scale gold mining. The goal is to promote responsible and productive artisanal mining that supports local development.
Since September 2021, Tolédougou village in Dabakala has had a modern six-classroom primary school. The school, built by the Coopeda mining cooperative, also includes teacher housing. Children now study in safe, well-equipped classrooms instead of makeshift shelters. Teacher Arthur Kouassi says lessons can continue smoothly even during bad weather.
The school shows how organized, eco-friendly mining can benefit communities. For the 2024-2025 year, 116 pupils from Tolédougou and nearby villages are enrolled.
