Hippo Capsizes Boat in Côte d’Ivoire

A tragic boat accident happened on September 5 on the Sassandra River near Buyo. A hippopotamus struck a canoe carrying 14 people, overturning it. Only three people survived the incident. Authorities say 11 are missing, including women, children, and a baby. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing. Minister of Cohesion and Solidarity, Myss Belmonde Dogo, expressed sorrow and support for families.

The community remains in shock as hope fades for those missing. Hippos are among Africa’s most dangerous animals despite their declining numbers.
