New Solar-Powered Water Plant Opens in Gapé-Kpédzi

A new drinking water treatment plant worth 104.6 million FCFA has been inaugurated in Gapé-Kpédzi, Zio 4 commune. Funded by Japan, the project aims to boost access to clean water in the area.

The eco-friendly plant uses solar-powered slow sand filtration to treat water from the Zio River. Over 3,000 residents of Gapé-Kpédzi and nearby villages are expected to benefit. The project was implemented by the Togolese NGO PASYD with support from Yamaha. It will help reduce waterborne diseases and improve community health.

The plant also creates local jobs and technical training opportunities for youth. The initiative supports Togo’s goal of achieving universal access to safe drinking water by 2030.
