Four Opposition Candidates Challenge Ouattara in Ivory Coast Election

Ivory Coast heads to the polls on October 25, with President Alassane Ouattara seeking a fourth term. Four key opposition figures have emerged to challenge him.

Simone Gbagbo, former First Lady and now leader of the Movement of Skilled Generations, says Ivorians want better healthcare and jobs. Jean-Louis Billon, a former trade minister, represents the Democratic Congress and promises reforms, including allowing dual nationality and cutting corruption. Ahoua Don Mello, once close to Laurent Gbagbo, runs as an independent and wants to end dependence on the CFA franc. Henriette Lagou Adjoua, ex-minister and women’s advocate, campaigns on peace, unity, and gender equality.

The election comes amid tensions after several major opposition figures, including Tidjane Thiam and Laurent Gbagbo, were barred from running.
