VALCO Seen as Key to Ghana’s Industrial Growth

Ghana’s Lands Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, says the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) is vital to the country’s industrial transformation. He described VALCO as a “sleeping lion” that must be revived to boost jobs and economic growth.

During his visit to the Tema plant, he said the government is determined to unlock VALCO’s full potential. The minister highlighted ongoing collaboration with GIADEC to add value to Ghana’s aluminium resources. He recalled that VALCO has always been central to Ghana’s industrial vision since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s era. Mr. Buah praised the company’s staff for their resilience despite operational challenges.

He assured that the government will not give up on reviving the aluminium sector. The visit was part of efforts to strengthen local production and reduce raw exports.
