The Togolese government has received 244 tons of locally produced food for public school canteens under the Bia Laafia (“Children’s Well-being”) Project. The delivery, made on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, includes 22 tons of smoked anchovies and 222 tons of fortified corn flour.
These foods were produced by SITRAPAT, a local company based in Tsévié, to promote homegrown supply chains. The project benefits 202 public primary schools, mainly in rural areas, to improve children’s nutrition and learning conditions. The government believes the initiative will help sustain meals for pupils supported by Catholic Relief Services. It also provides training for teachers, principals, and inspectors to strengthen educational quality.
The programme is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education scheme. It operates in the Kéran, Oti-Sud, and Dankpen prefectures, combining school feeding with education support.
