Dirty Water Crisis in Nanton Zuo

Residents of Nanton Zuo in northern Ghana have been drinking polluted dam water for over 30 years. The only water source contains human waste, animal droppings, agrochemicals, and dangerous bacteria. Health workers report increasing cases of diarrhoea, typhoid, skin infections, and kidney complications. Girls miss school and women lose hours each week searching for water.

Boreholes fail because underground rocks cannot store water. Private water is too expensive for most families to buy daily. A major water project promised in 2020 has still not started. The community wants urgent safe water, dam rehabilitation, and inclusion in the Tamale Water Project.
