Alexi Lalas Wants Ghana Drawn Against USA

Former U.S. international Alexi Lalas says he hopes Ghana will be drawn in the same group as hosts USA at the 2026 World Cup. Speaking on a Fox Sports preview show, he claimed the current Black Stars side is “not a great Ghana team,” though he admitted the nation has strong history against the U.S.

Ghana has beaten the United States twice in their three World Cup meetings. The Black Stars won 2-1 in their first clash at the 2006 World Cup group stage. They defeated the U.S. again in 2010 when Asamoah Gyan scored a famous extra-time winner. America’s only World Cup victory over Ghana came in 2014, also a 2-1 result.

The 2026 World Cup draw takes place on Friday at 5 PM in Washington. With Ghana in pot four and the U.S. in pot one, a group-stage meeting remains a real possibility.
