Togo Spends CFA30bn on Reparations

The Togolese state has mobilized nearly 30 billion CFA francs over ten years for transitional justice reparations. Data presented in Lomé show that 29.6 billion CFA francs were raised through the special compensation fund.

Of this amount, 24.8 billion CFA francs were directly allocated to victim compensation. More than 23.6 billion CFA francs went to financial compensation, alongside funds for community and memorial reparations. Scholarships worth 144 million CFA francs were also granted to orphaned children. Since 2017, a total of 33,331 victims of socio-political violence have received compensation.

During the 2024–2025 phase, nearly 2,900 victims were compensated across several regions. The reparations program now also includes property restitution and psycho-medical support.
