Teachers Threaten Protests Over Arrears

Over 6,000 teachers have warned of street protests and legal action over unpaid salary arrears. The Coalition of Unpaid Teachers says many members have worked for over a year without full pay.

Some teachers have received salaries for only two months despite 12 to 15 months of service. They blame the problem on administrative delays and missing GES staff identification cards. Without the IDs, affected teachers cannot be added to the mechanised payroll system. The group says the situation has pushed many teachers into serious financial hardship.

They are demanding that all outstanding staff IDs be issued before the January 2026 payroll. The Coalition is also consulting lawyers to sue the state over what it calls unfair treatment.
