Corruption Hurts National Growth

The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has warned that corruption in Customs operations weakens Ghana’s national development. Speaking at the 2026 International Customs Day event, he said revenue leakages deny the country vital resources.

He stressed that every cedi lost to fraud means fewer funds for development projects. According to him, government revenue is key to providing schools, roads, healthcare, and sanitation. Mr. Ampem explained that corruption leads to unbuilt infrastructure and poor public services. He highlighted the important role of the Customs Division in collecting revenue and stopping illegal trade.

The Deputy Minister said integrity and professionalism in Customs work are essential. He urged officers to uphold transparency and protect national revenue for Ghana’s future.
