Togo Strengthens Regional Energy Trade

In the second quarter of 2025, Togo emerged as Cameroon’s second-largest supplier by import value. Petroleum products accounted for imports worth 162.7 billion FCFA, according to Cameroon’s National Shippers Council.

The figures, relayed by Investir au Cameroun, highlight the strategic importance of the Togolese corridor in regional energy supply. Togo’s performance reflects a long-standing pattern linked to its role in transshipment and re-export through the Port of Lomé. In 2020, the country was already Cameroon’s leading African supplier, largely due to fuels and lubricants. The trend extended in 2022, when Togo became Gabon’s top African supplier with exports valued at 41.6 billion FCFA.

These outcomes are underpinned by Togo’s geographical position and efficient port logistics. Ongoing investments, including dredging to receive larger vessels, are expected to further consolidate Lomé’s status as a regional trade hub.
