Abu Trica Sues State, FBI

A 27-year-old Ghanaian, Frederick Kumi, known as Abu Trica, has sued the Government of Ghana and the FBI. He is demanding GH₵10 million in damages for alleged torture, unlawful detention, and human rights abuses. The suit names the Interior Minister, Attorney-General, NACOC, EOCO, and the FBI as respondents. He claims he was arrested, handcuffed for hours, starved, and interrogated without a lawyer present. Abu Trica alleges FBI agents forced him to sign documents and disclose phone passwords under threat.

He also accuses security agencies of raiding his home and seizing luxury cars, electronics, and jewellery. According to him, no inventory or receipt was provided for the seized items. The case, to be heard in February 2026, could shape how foreign agencies operate in Ghana.
