Togo has signed a five-year agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The deal covers the period from 2026 to 2031. It was signed in Vienna by Foreign Minister Robert Dussey and IAEA chief Rafael Grossi. The agreement will promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology in Togo. Support will focus on cancer research, agriculture, food security, and energy.
The country created an Atomic Energy Commission in January 2025 to guide the process. Togo also plans to strengthen nuclear safety and its legal framework. The IAEA will provide technical and institutional support to help implement the policy.
