Ghana Airport Returns to Old Name

The government has renamed Kotoka International Airport back to Accra International Airport. The Ministry of Transport said the airport was originally known by this name before it was changed. Key figures explained that restoring the former name reflects its international recognition. They assured the public that airport operations and safety standards will not be affected. The airport code “ACC,” registered with the International Civil Aviation Organization, remains unchanged.

Authorities will update documents, signage, and digital platforms during the transition. The decision follows weeks of debate in Parliament and across the country. Supporters say the move strengthens democracy, while critics argue it removes recognition linked to Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka.
