Togo Excels in Women’s Economic Rights

Togo ranks second in Africa for women’s economic rights, according to the World Bank’s 2026 report, Women, Business and the Law. The country leads ECOWAS, WAEMU, and Francophone Africa, scoring 79.33 out of 100.

Togolese laws guarantee equality in pay, marriage, property ownership, and pensions. Workers can request flexible hours, supporting women in balancing work and family. Togo also performs well in female entrepreneurship and parental rights. Women enjoy freedom of movement, scoring 75/100 in legal rights and 68.75/100 in practice. Institutional support and implementation of rights still need improvement. The government promises to strengthen support systems and boost women’s participation in economic development.
