The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is struggling with increasing patient pressure as the “no bed syndrome” continues. Deputy Medical Director Dr Yaw Opare Larbi says the situation has become more intense in recent months. He explained that conditions at KATH are similar to those at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but sometimes even worse. The hospital serves as the only major tertiary referral centre in the Ashanti Region. It also receives patients from about 12 to 13 regions across Ghana.
This heavy inflow of referrals is stretching available beds and resources. The ongoing crisis highlights growing demand for healthcare beyond hospital capacity. Health experts say urgent solutions are needed to expand infrastructure and ease pressure on major facilities.
