Togo is among the first African nations to receive refined fuel from the Dangote Oil Refinery. The Nigerian refinery has been expanding its regional supply operations since early 2026. It exported 12 shipments of petroleum products, totaling about 456,000 tons, to five African countries. This follows the refinery reaching full capacity of about 650,000 barrels per day in February 2026. The move comes as many African countries face high fuel import costs and supply risks.
Most countries still depend on imports from Europe and Asia despite producing crude oil. Togo is using this partnership to diversify fuel sources and improve supply security. Officials say proximity to Nigeria and the role of the Port of Lomé could boost regional fuel distribution.
