Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa has called on the Federal Government to raise tobacco control funding to at least N300 million annually. The group warns that current funding is insufficient to tackle rising use of e-cigarettes and vapes among Nigerian youth.
The report states tobacco use causes nearly 30,000 deaths yearly and cost Nigerians over N526 billion in 2019. CAPPA also accused tobacco companies of targeting youths through digital platforms and urged increased taxes and full implementation of the Tobacco Control Fund.
