President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a special welfare fund for fallen and wounded soldiers, pledging his entire presidential salaries since assuming office as seed funding. The announcement was made in Abuja during his 74th birthday activities, with a directive to the Accountant-General to open a dedicated account for transparency.
The fund will support injured personnel and families of fallen heroes, including widows and children. Tinubu described the move as a moral obligation and urged governors, lawmakers, the private sector, and Nigerians to contribute, noting that account details will soon be made public.
