In Togo, 240 women are set to be trained in heavy goods vehicle driving. The program is part of the Lomé-Ouagadougou-Niamey Economic Corridor Project aimed at boosting regional transport. It seeks to increase women’s participation in a male-dominated sector. Trainees will undergo three months of theory, practical driving, and certification. The first group of 40 women began their certification phase on April 28.
In total, six groups will be trained throughout 2026. The initiative is funded by the World Bank with a $120 million investment. The program also aims to create jobs, reduce stereotypes, and expand opportunities for women.
