Mahama Warns State Enterprise Bosses

President John Dramani Mahama has warned state-owned enterprise chief executives that they risk dismissal if they fail to submit audited accounts and annual reports on time. He delivered the message during a diaspora town hall meeting on May 31. Mahama said the government is strengthening oversight of public institutions to improve accountability and transparency. He expressed concern that some state enterprises had operated for up to seven years without audited financial statements.

The President described the situation as harmful to effective economic management. He noted that losses by poorly performing state enterprises eventually become a burden on the national economy. Mahama revealed that submitting audited accounts and annual reports is now a key performance indicator for chief executives. He added that some state enterprises are already showing signs of improvement under ongoing reforms and closer monitoring.
