The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Alcohol Policy and Multisectoral Implementation Plan for 2026 to 2030. The policy is aimed at reducing alcohol-related harm, protecting public health and promoting responsible industry practices.
Health officials say alcohol consumption contributed to thousands of road crashes and deaths in 2024. NAFDAC has also reached an agreement with manufacturers to end the production of alcohol in sachets, while authorities warn that illicit alcohol continues to cost government billions in lost revenue.
