COPEC has accused parts of the petroleum industry of unfairly targeting Star Oil over its call for lower fuel prices. The group says the controversy exposes weaknesses in Ghana’s fuel pricing system. COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, criticised the price floor policy introduced in 2024. He argued that a price ceiling would better protect consumers from excessive charges.
Mr Amoah questioned why companies with higher prices face no scrutiny while lower prices are resisted. He described the backlash against Star Oil as unjust and damaging to its brand. Star Oil has suspended its membership of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC). The company says COMAC failed to fairly explain its position, leading to negative public perceptions.
