Sam Okudzeto says the Office of the Special Prosecutor has failed to justify its existence. He argued on PM Express that the OSP has not reduced corruption in Ghana.
According to him, corruption remains widespread and openly practiced in public institutions. He questioned why a separate office was created when the Attorney General already has prosecutorial powers. Mr Okudzeto explained that corruption is a crime like any other and should be handled by the Director of Public Prosecutions. He said Ghana misunderstood the model of a “special prosecutor,” which elsewhere addresses specific, temporary issues—not a full institution.
He referenced international examples to show the importance of strengthening the AG’s office instead. Mr Okudzeto concluded that the OSP was flawed from the start and should be scrapped, while existing state structures are properly empowered.
