President Alassane Ouattara has renewed calls for a common ECOWAS currency. He said the project is vital for stronger trade and regional integration. The initiative has faced years of delay due to economic and political challenges. Ouattara believes the time is right to restart serious discussions. Reports suggest tensions exist between Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso over ECOWAS leadership.
Despite this, Ouattara stressed the need for unity among member states. A shared currency could ease business and reduce reliance on foreign money. Talks are expected to continue ahead of the October summit.
