Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé is in Japan for TICAD 9, which opened today in Yokohama.
The summit is organized by Japan with the UN, World Bank, and African Union. Its theme is “Co-creating innovative solutions with Africa.” President Gnassingbé will meet Japanese leaders and businesses on the sidelines. He hopes to secure investments in infrastructure, food security, and digital projects. Japan already supports Togo with loans, grants, and technical aid worth 186 billion CFA francs.
Trade between the two nations reached 5.39 billion yen in 2023. Tokyo is also funding roads in Sokodé and donating rice to strengthen food security.
