On July 17, 2,552,039 out of 4,637,998 registered voters took part in Togo’s municipal elections. This represents a turnout rate of 55.02%, according to the electoral commission (CENI). It marks a slight increase from the 52% turnout recorded in the 2019 local elections.
Despite reports of low turnout in some areas, strong participation in the north boosted the overall rate. Regions like Kara and Savanes saw voter turnout as high as 90% in some districts. Following the vote, CENI began releasing provisional results. So far, the ruling party, Union for the Republic (UNIR), is leading.
These elections were held to fill 1,527 municipal council seats across Togo’s 117 communes.U.K.
