Togo Cracks Down on Illegal Medical Practice

In Togo, several unlicensed medical practitioners will soon face prosecution. The announcement was made by Dr. Békéti Katanga Anthony, head of the National Medical Council. He highlighted the growing number of unauthorized doctors as a serious concern. Dr. Békéti said a collective effort is needed to fight this issue effectively. He called for support from the Ministries of Health, Justice, Security, and Local Government.

Currently, 826 doctors are officially registered with the Medical Council. However, nearly 100 unlicensed practitioners are still operating, mostly in rural areas. This crackdown supports the rollout of Universal Health Insurance in Togo.
