The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting Friday, September 19, 2025. The union accuses the government of neglecting the concerns of non-teaching staff in the education sector.
A statement signed by General Secretary King James Azortibah directed all members to stay home until further notice. The affected workers include staff of GES, public universities, libraries, and museums. TEWU is demanding signed Conditions of Service, inclusion in the CPD allowance, and resolution of promotion disputes. It also wants the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to finalize outstanding agreements.
The union warned against intimidation, insisting it had followed all legal procedures. The strike is expected to disrupt administration, security, library, and support services nationwide.
