Abonse Slave Market Tourism Call

A tourism curator has urged the Ghana Tourism Authority to develop the Abonse Slave Market. The site is located in the Okere District of the Eastern Region. It once served as a slave market during the transatlantic slave trade. Researchers from the University of Ghana have confirmed its historical importance. They found shackles and other evidence at the site.

The curator wants Abonse developed like the Assin Manso Slave Market. He believes it can become a major national tourism attraction. GTA officials say government is committed to expanding tourism products nationwide.
