Kotoka Family Reject Airport Renaming

The family of late Major General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka has opposed plans to rename Kotoka International Airport. They say the proposal is disrespectful and was made without consulting the family or traditional leaders. A family spokesperson said General Kotoka was not a traitor but helped end dictatorship and restore stability. They highlighted his military service in Ghana and his leadership role during the Congo Crisis. His work earned him international recognition, including an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II.

The family also pointed to community projects linked to his legacy, such as health and water initiatives. They dismissed claims that the family receives royalties from the airport. The issue has sparked national debate as Parliament prepares to consider a bill on the renaming.
