Togo’s National Assembly has officially adopted four important bills at the close of its first extraordinary session on March 23, 2026. The new laws focus on strengthening economic, financial, and environmental governance in the country. One major reform updates the national environmental framework to better address climate change and promote sustainable resource use. Lawmakers also approved the transfer of responsibilities and assets from the youth support fund (FAIEJ) to the SME development agency (ADTPME). This move aims to streamline public support systems for entrepreneurship and improve efficiency.
In the financial sector, new measures were passed to regulate microfinance institutions. Another law targets counterfeiting and protects monetary symbols within the West African Monetary Union (UMOA). Parliament is expected to reconvene in early April, with inclusive education among the top priorities for upcoming legislation.
