Police Disband SIU, Transfer 88 Officers

Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has disbanded the Special Investigation Unit of the Nigeria Police Force and ordered the transfer of about 88 officers. The affected officers include those who served under former unit head Akin Fakorede, whose tenure drew criticism over alleged rights violations.

The restructured unit will now be led by Aliyu Abubakar, with a mandate to improve accountability and professionalism. The move forms part of broader internal reforms aimed at reorganising investigative and monitoring structures within the Force.
