Civil rights organisation Tap Initiative for Citizens’ Development has urged Nigeria to ratify the African Union’s Malabo Protocol.
The protocol expands the jurisdiction of the African Court of Justice to cover terrorism, genocide and trafficking.
Executive Director Martin Obono said Nigeria faces major challenges prosecuting terrorism-related crimes.
He noted that concerns over witness and judicial safety continue to limit effective prosecutions.
The organisation believes the protocol could strengthen accountability across Africa.
Obono said only Angola has ratified the protocol since its adoption in 2014.
He added that Nigeria is well-positioned to lead efforts toward its implementation.
The group has already submitted memoranda to the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs.
It is also collaborating with civil society organisations across the continent.
Obono described ratification as a reinforcement of justice rather than a surrender of sovereignty.
