Fuel Price Relief Expected

Ghana’s Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor may announce a temporary cut in some fuel pricing margins today. The move is expected to reduce fuel prices by about GH¢1 per litre starting April 16. It follows discussions with Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson on easing costs for consumers. However, no official request has been sent to Parliament to review fuel taxes. This suggests tax reductions may not be included in the announcement.

The relief is expected to last for four weeks, depending on global oil price trends. Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu earlier confirmed plans to cushion consumers. Meanwhile, groups like IMANI Africa are calling for a bigger and longer reduction in fuel prices.
