Ghana Missing Carnival Billions

Ghana may be losing huge tourism money due to low investment in carnival. The CEO of the World Carnival Commission, Pax Nindi, says carnival is a major economic “goldmine.” He explained that countries like Brazil earn billions from well-organised carnival events. For example, Brazil invests about £200 million but earns around £1.5 billion in returns. Globally, carnival attracts over 50 million people and generates about $15 billion each year.

Ghana, seen as a safe tourist destination, has strong potential to benefit from this industry. The Black Star Carnival aims to make Ghana a global carnival hub. Experts say with proper planning, funding, and consistency, carnival could boost jobs and the economy.
