Mahama Backs Shama Glass Factory

John Mahama has expressed strong confidence that the new float glass factory in Shama will become one of Africa’s largest. He made the remarks during the sod-cutting ceremony for the plant in the Western Region. The project is being developed by KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited. The President said the factory would transform Ghana’s glass industry and cut down heavy imports. In 2024 alone, Ghana imported over 65,000 tonnes of glass valued at nearly $25 million.

He explained that the new facility will reduce reliance on foreign products and save foreign exchange. At full capacity, the plant is expected to produce 1,400 tonnes of glass per day.
