Shooting Stars SC of Oyo State have parted ways with head coach Gbenga Ogunbote, the entire coaching crew, and General Manager Dimeji Lawal following a disappointing 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. Despite flashes of brilliance, the team could only manage a mid-table finish, ending the campaign in eighth position with 15 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses from 38 matches — far below the expectations set by the club’s leadership and passionate fan base.
In a statement issued by the club’s hierarchy, led by chairman Lekan Salami, the decision was described as necessary to “chart a new direction.” The management expressed appreciation for the efforts of the outgoing staff but emphasized the need for a fresh approach to restore the club’s competitive edge. A search for new managerial and technical leadership is already underway as Shooting Stars aim for a more ambitious push in the next NPFL season.
