A stampede broke out at the Accra Central Market during intense Christmas shopping. The incident happened on Monday, December 22, amid heavy congestion at the market.
Traders said the rush to buy food and essentials created panic among shoppers. Several people reportedly collapsed, including a pregnant woman. Children and other shoppers were said to have lost phones and money during the chaos. The situation almost turned tragic as crowd pressure increased.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service intervened by spraying water to calm the crowd. Accra Central Market usually experiences heavy human traffic during the Christmas season.
