A delegation from the Ghana Embassy in Washington visited an ICE detention facility in Pennsylvania. The visit was led by Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith as part of consular duties. The facility currently holds 11 Ghanaian nationals, including one woman. Their detention periods range from about two weeks to nearly ten months. Officials briefed the delegation on the detainees’ status and living conditions.
The ambassador met the detainees to assess their health, welfare, and concerns. He acknowledged the emotional difficulty of spending Christmas in detention. He assured them Ghana remains home and opportunities exist for rebuilding their lives.
